API and MCP
The same data and rules as the app, for your scripts, your blog and your AI assistant. Everything is on the Developers page of the account menu (admins and owners).
API keys
Create a key in Developers → API keys. It’s shown only once. Scopes: Read (every GET) and Write (create articles and send them to your CMS). A key acts with the role of whoever created it, limited by its scope; if that person leaves the workspace, the key stops working.
Limits per key: 120 requests a minute and 10,000 a day (429 with Retry-After).
curl https://getcitable.com/api/v1/sites \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $CITABLE_API_KEY"What the API returns
- Sites, with the latest mention and citation rates (each with its 90% range).
- Visibility by question and AI, gaps, the answers each AI gave, and the sources it cites.
- Actions by priority, articles (markdown, HTML, sources, FAQ) and their measured effect.
- Create an article from a question or a gap, and send it to your CMS (as a draft unless automatic publishing is on).
- The latest audit, visits from AI and the client report in JSON.
Full specification (OpenAPI 3.1): /api/v1/openapi.json.
Event webhooks
In Developers, add a public https URL and choose events: measurement.completed, gap.opened, article.ready, article.published, article.failed, audit.completed, digest.sent and lead.created. Each delivery is signed (Citable-Signature) with a secret shown once; answer 2xx within 10 seconds. Failed deliveries are retried for about 33 hours.
To receive the articles themselves on your own blog, use the publishing webhook instead: Next.js and custom sites.
MCP server
Ask your AI assistant about your AI visibility. The Citable MCP server is read-only: it can’t change anything in your account. Use an API key with the Read scope as an Authorization header. It shares the key’s limits with the API.
Claude Code: run once in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http citable https://getcitable.com/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer cit_live_…"Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and other clients that accept headers: add the server URL and the header to the client’s MCP configuration. The exact configuration for your account is on the Developers page.
ChatGPT and claude.ai custom connectors sign in with OAuth, which Citable doesn’t offer yet. Answers written by other AI assistants reach your client marked as untrusted text.
